URGENT NEED FOR FOSTER HOMES: We are in a foster home shortage!!! Please check out our section on FOSTERING. There is a lab waiting for your help.

Annabelle

Meet Miss Annabelle.  This beautiful girl is approx. 4 years old.  We've just recently gotten her back into our program so check back soon for updates from the foster mom.  We do know that she walks well on a leash, knows sit and down.  She does like other dogs.  She doesn't beg for food, she doesn't chew and she goes to the door when she wants out!  We also know now that she knows how to use a doggie door too!

Something seems to have happened in Annabelle's past regarding kids, so she will need to be with a family with no kids or children over the age of 13.

UPDATE FROM THE FOSTER MOM (4/28/08):  Annabelle is doing very well in her foster home with her foster brother. Her foster mom says she is a "fantastic dog". She is completely housebroken and can be left alone in the house without being in a crate. She gets along well with other dogs although when she first sees a dog while on leash she will bark to get attention (we are working on correcting this). She is extremely comfortable around people even in a large crowd. Annabelle is a medium energy dog and a pro at snuggling. She knows a few commands and she has had 3 private lessons of training at Jabula Academy. The trainers there already know her and would love to keep working with her. She is a great dog who just needs someone to love her unconditionally. Annabelle will do better with another dog, preferably a boy, to hang out with.

Daisy - the puppy

Here is Miss Daisy!  A very sweet little 3 month old puppy that couldn't figure out how she ended up at animal control!

Update from the foster mom (2/8/08):  Miss Daisy is very sweet.  She gets along great with the other dogs and has recently discovered how much fun tennis balls can be!  She also loves to cuddle with you.  She rides very well in cars as well.  She had her very first bath today and apparently enjoyed it very much indeed.

PS  Don't let the pictures fool you; she's a very petite little girl (she only looks big cause the camera was right in her face!)

Dixie

This is Dixie, a beautiful 9 month old girl.  She is very, high energy and loves to play.  She needs a fenced in yard and also someone who will commit to professional training with her.  She would do great as an only dog or with a dog her age that likes to wrestle around.  Dixie is housebroken.

DIXIE NEEDS A FOSTER HOME!

Dooley

This is Dooley, the latest addition to the LFS crew.  He is approx. 1 1/2 to 2 years old and super sweet.  He gets along great with other dogs and loves people.  He also walks well on a leash.

DOOLEY NEEDS A FOSTER HOME!

Eddie

Meet Eddie!! An extremely handsome 2 year old male black lab. Eddie came to us with endless exuberant energy which required him to work with a trainer who had him learn how to channel his energy in a positive direction. Eddie is crate trained, gets along with other dogs, and has a great disposition. He keeps a happy and positive attitude about life no matter what the situation is. He loves people and is great with children who are a little older and can be his "play buddies". Eddie loves to run and play ball, and would be the ideal match for someone who wants a running partner. He is also well behaved in the car and loves to go for rides sitting in the back with his head out the window. His favorite snack is Zaxby's chicken fingers!
Eddie's evaluation shows no unwanted behaviors or manners. He's just a happy guy that loves to play! Eddie's work with a trainer has re-channeled his energy into being a more well mannered guy, and he is very responsive to direction when given. Eddy is very healthy and is up to date on all required vaccinations. His coat feels like silk and it's so shiny you can almost see yourself in the reflection. Eddie will need a fenced in back yard and someone who has time to exercise him regularly. He will need someone active and who can provide positive leadership for him so he will continue to practice the discipline he's been working on. Don't think this guy doesn't like to take time out for lots of petting and relaxing-he loves that too!!! Are you looking for someone who will put a smile on your face and be your "best buddy" - then Eddie is your guy!!!

Eddie is fine with cats but prefers younger dogs that can run and play with him!  He also does better with larger dogs.

EDDIE NEEDS A FOSTER HOME!

Jade

Here is Miss Jade.  Now that her puppies have all found homes and Jade herself has a foster home, we can start getting her heartworms.  We expect her to come thru the treatment just fine and in a few weeks Jade will be looking for her forever home.  This beautiful approx. 3 year old girl has not had the best of life so far but that's all changing now!

Jake

This is little man Jake!  He is only about 6 weeks old and just doesn't understand what is going on in his little world.  He's been to the vet (who gave him a clean bill of health) and now is in a foster home with other dogs.  Check back soon for more updates on this little guy!

While he's certainly not a pure bred labbie, we do think there is some lab in him!  And he is just so darn cute.....

I can sleep anywhere................

Lucky

This is Lucky.  Unfortunately, he has had a turn of bad luck recently.  You see, Lucky's mom has only been given a few weeks to live.  She is desperate for us to find good homes for her labs to go to (see also Shatka).  These sweet dogs are in good health and just need a loving home to go to.  We would love it if they could go together since they only have each other right now and are very confused with what's going on in their lives.  Lucky is approx. 5 years old.

UPDATE FROM THE FOSTER MOM (1/24/08):  Lucky is doing great!  He's coming out of his shell and starting to enjoy life again.  He will need to go to a home with another dog to make him feel secure.

Maggie

This is Maggie.  She's about 2 years old.  She has some boxer in her.  She's leash trained and housebroken.  She would do best in a home with children over 10 and an experienced dog owner.

UPDATED FROM THE FOSTER MOM:  Maggie May is doing really good.  She's very good on the leash and overall is a nice girl.  She wants to play with her doggie brothers and sisters and she is still figuring that whole "play" thing out.  She gets along well with them.  She knows how to sit for her treats.  She also rides well in the car.

She will need a home as either an only dog (so as to have all the love and affection) or with smaller dogs.

"See, everybody loves me....I am so sweet and wonderful"

MAGGIE NEEDS A FOSTER HOME!

Musso

This is Musso.  Don't let the gray fool you, this boy still has a lot of years of living to do!  He's eight years old and just a very mellow guy.  He appears to be housebroken and is good with kids.  He also ignores cats!  Let's show Musso how great life can finally be with his true forever home.

UPDATE FROM THE FOSTER MOM (2/23/08):  What a great dog!!  He is great with the kids and lets the cats just walk on him (literally, yes the littlest kitten thinks he is just the most fun!)  He rides great in the car and he walks well on a leash.  He is also housebroken and hardly ever barks!

Pumpkin

This is Pumpkin.  Pumpkin is a very sweet and loving boy who likes to be where the action is.  He is extremely food motivated but is very gentle when taking the treat from your hand, even when he took it from my 3 year old son's hand.   As you can see by the pictures he is very relaxed around kids and definitely indulges them.

Unfortunately, Pumpkin has had some bad luck recently and our vet has confirmed that Pumpkin's kidneys are irreparably damaged.   The prognosis is not clear and unfortunately there is no treatment. Thankfully he did not die but he will need to have a lot of water during the course of the day and consequently, he will pee more often than most other dogs. For this reason he will need to have free access to a fenced backyard through a doggie door.

UPDATE FROM THE FOSTER MOM (3/25/08):  Pumpkin has been at our house for almost two weeks and is settling in great.  It took him about 3 or 4 days to learn to navigate the doggie door and during the meantime, he never had an accident in the house.  He is extremely good at letting you know when he has to go outside.  He gets along very well with my two labbie girls and has his own harem which I think he kinda enjoys being the only male in the house..  He's a great snuggler at any time, be it on the couch or in bed at night.  He is rather picky over his food and we are still trying various toppings to make it more palatable to him since I'm sure his special food tastes like cardboard to him.  He needs to gain some weight to fill out like he was before his illness.  Otherwise, he does not require any special attention in any way except the doggie door is a great tool for him to be able to get out when he needs to be outside.  He is very lovable in everyway and likes to be hugged frequently.  He will make a wonderful pet with small children, as an only dog or with another to play with as he is rather laid back but still likes to play.

Rosie

This is Rosie, a wonderful 4 year old labbie girl.  She loves to play ball and is housebroken.  She really is a sweetheart of a girl.

Rosie is fine with cats!

Ruby

This is Ruby, a wonderful 8 year old lab that we recently rescued.  Check back soon for more details on this girl's personality!

We have found out that Ruby is not good with cats; she seems to think they are made for chasing!

Ruby has a great spunky personality, so much in fact that you would never guess her age by watching her. She gets along with small and large dogs but she is not so keen on very high energy dog.

Shatka

This is Shatka.  Unfortunately, she has had a turn of bad luck recently.  You see, Shatka's mom has only been given a few weeks to live.  She is desperate for us to find good homes for her labs to go to (see also Lucky).  These sweet dogs are in good health and just need a loving home to go to.  We would love it if they could go together since they only have each other right now and are very confused with what's going on in their lives.  Shatka is approx. 6 years old.

UPDATE FROM THE FOSTER DAD (1/26/08):  Shatka is doing great!  She rides well in the car and loves to go for walks.  She is an absolute joy!

Since we now have her in a foster home, we've determined that she and Lucky will be fine apart from each other.  The main issue is finding a home to love on her.

Tennessee

Here is Tennessee, so named because of the collar that was found on this boy!  He's around 3 years old and very sweet.  He loves to play ball and will even drop it for you to throw again.  His story is that he was left alone on a covered patio with no food, water, or shelter.  Luckily, he was rescued before any harm befell him.  He's up to date on all his shots and has been neutered.

TENNESSEE NEEDS A FOSTER HOME!

Tenny

Teeny is a sweet and loving young girl.  She is approx. 9 to 11 months old and full of energy.  She gets along well with all her labbie brothers and sisters.  She is also housebroken!

Tiger Lily

UPDATE FROM THE FOSTER MOM (3/18/08): Tiger Lily has been so easy to take care of. She definitely had a good home at one point. She is housebroken and knows sit, down, and shake already. She gets right in the car and sits or lays down in the back. She loves going on walks and is waiting for you at the door when she sees the leash. We took her on a hike and she loved it! She does pretty well on the leash and could be a great running partner for someone. She is crate trained but would probably be fine out of a crate when no one is home. When she gets excited, she grabs the closest toy and runs around. It really is too cute! Tiger Lily is a beautiful female chocolate lab that strayed away from home and found herself sitting in a North Georgia shelter. Her rich chocolate coat, nice leather collar with tags, and her almost too svelte of a middle section, leads us to believe that she was very well cared for at some time. However, that loving family never came to claim her at the shelter. With the shelter full, Tiger Lily did not have much time left there. Luckily, she is now a member of the Labrador Friends family! Miss Tiger Lily appears housebroken, crate-trained, and rides well in the car. She is also a lady around other dogs. Tiger Lily just needs a nurturing family to give her lots of lovin and take her on little dog walks to get her figure back in shape. This chocolate beauty is a fine catch! She is about 4 to 5 years old.. Also good with cats.

Wiley

Here is our latest member of the gang, Wiley. This handsome boy is only about 8 months old and he loves to play with other dogs.  He is the typical lab puppy, very curious and ready to make you smile.

"Are you going to come out and play with me?"

Wiley is a high energy dog. He is currently in training. Come back for updates from his trainer. Wiley will be best suited for an experienced owner who will keep up with his training.

UPDATE FROM THE TRAINER (12/12/07):  Wylie is not your typical goofy, laid back chocolate lab. Although he is delightfully sweet, devastatingly handsome and loves to chase a  ball, he has a "dark side". In the right home, his "dark side" can be managed exposing all the good stuff about Wylie.  And there is a lot of good stuff!!  The right home would consist of an active, dedicated and strong leader. Wylie is going to need to be treated like the  working dog he is.  He is not the type of dog that is ever going to be able cuddle on the sofa with you or sleep in your bed.   Wylie is currently in intensive training to get his big dog attitude under control and it is very important for his training to be maintained.  His new owner will have to commit to enrolling in training classes with him.  He will also need to walk every day: A long, working, heel position walk. Wylie needs someone that thrives on rules and routine as he does.  When Wylie has rules and disciple in conjunction with exercise and love, he is a wonderful, hard working dog.  Left to his own devices, he gets extremely pushy!  For this reason I would not recommend a family with children.  Wiley will make the right family very happy so we are taking our time to make sure Wylie finds his perfect person or family.

UPDATE FROM THE TRAINER (1/9/08): Wiley is doing extremely well in training. He passed boot camp with flying colors and he is now ready to go into a permanent home. Wiley loves his daily walks! He is truly the perfect power-walk buddy: he stays right next to you, he will keep you motivate and I promise he will not bail out of you even when it is raining! Once he has had his walk, Wiley is a great dog. A 30 minuted fetching (his second favorite thing to do) in the afternoon will be all the exercise he needs. He is affectionate and loving and he is well trained on the remote collar. Wiley comes with FREE training classes at Jabula Dog Academy in Decatur and his new owner will have to commit to keep up the training by going to class at Jabula at least once or twice a month. Maintaining the training is a must to keep Wiley out of trouble. If you are disciplined owner who loves well trained dogs, Wiley is the dog for you.

Wilson

This handsome boy is Wilson, a very nice 2 year old boy.  He loves to run and play with his ball.  Wilson likes all the attention on him so he will need to go to a home with just him or a smaller, non-dominant female.  He also definitely will have to have a fenced in yard to run around in.  He knows several commands such as sit, stay, down, and come.  He is also trained on a whistle to come.

"I also love to play with sticks and branches!"

"This is my solemn pose; don't I look very dignified?"

Halle - 11 months old

Hannibal  11 months old

This is Moose, a very handsome boy.  Moose will need a fenced in yard so he will have room to run and play.

He is posted as a courtesy for Pet Friends of North Georgia
