Available Labs
Meet Aeryn! Aeryn is a sweet 8 month old black lab. She was once an LFS puppy and got adopted, but unforeseen circumstances have caused her owners to have to give her up. Aeryn would make an awesome addition. Aeryn is a little shy at first but she quickly gets really attached and affectionate. She is not a chewer and she likes to play with dog toys. When she is ready to take a nap she looks for people to snuggle with. We think she would do better with a fenced yard and another dog, but more than anything Aeryn needs the right home to love her and make her feel secure.
UPDATE FROM FOSTER MOM:Aeryn is the easiest and sweetest foster I had. She follows me around all the time. She is so well behaved, and once told "no" once for something, she doesn't repeat it. She is not a chewer and she only plays with her toys. She likes to go for walks and runs. She is a little afraid of men but we are working on this and she is getting better. She sleeps the entire night on a dog bed next to my bed and she waits until the alarm clock goes off before saying hi. She is so absolutely precious and so easy - I hate that she has had a rough start to life, but know that she will make the best companion for someone out there - male or female.
UPDATE: Aeryn is such a sweet, easy, loving, dog...of course, unfortunately still a little scared of males. I have noticed though slight improvements - this afternoon I coaxed her into the chair with my dad and she actually licked his face! She regresses though when she first sees any male that she may have shown improvements with prior - she will bark and back away from them. She does better once they are sitting down. She knows a few tricks - "sit" and "down" and we are currently working on "stay," which she is pretty good at. She is also extremely well behaved - once I tell her no one time, she generally will remember it in the future. For example, she knows she isn't allowed on my couches, and I never have to remind her of that. I also leave her uncrated now, and she is perfect - she's never had an accident in my apartment, knock on wood ;) Also, she gets along fabulously with other dogs - loves to play, run, jump, and tackle. She loves to sniff cats, chase squirrels, and run with dogs. She's my little companion, best friend, and we go everywhere together. Aeryn would make a wonderful addition to the right family who can understand and work on her fears. She had a difficult start of life, lets make sure the rest of her life will be easy!

Meet Betsy Bell. She was dropped off at a vet office with her brother Walker and never picked up. She is around one year old and around 50 pounds and very good looking. She loves to play with other dogs but she could also be an only dog.
UPDATE FROM FOSTER DAD:Betsy Bell just arrived into his new foster home. She met all her foster brothers and sisters. So far she is doing great! She is a gorgeous lab!

Meet Buddy! This sweet, approximately 1 year old lab mix is looking for his new forever home. Buddy was found roaming the streets and was taken in by a wonderful family that cannot keep him. Buddy is on the smaller side at only 37 pounds, but what he lacks in size, he makes up for in personality. He is sweet with people, he loves to play with other dogs, and he is great with kids. He is housebroken and crate-trained. Buddy loves to go on walks and play in the backyard. He would probably do well with a moderately active family. Buddy has fully recovered from heartworm treatment and he is ready for adoption.

Meet Mr. David!! The shelter estimated him to be about 6 years old. Unfortunately, David has had a rough life without the proper care he deserves. In effect, he tested heartworm positive. Those sad eyes deserved another chance, and LFS stepped in to give him a better life. David went through HW treatment already and he is doing great. David is awesome: he is laid back, easy, and affectionate. He likes dogs, people, kids and even cats. The only thing he does not get is to get photographed: he turned away every time we tried to snap a picture. David will need a nice, quiet place to recover from his treatment. If you are interested in fostering David, please visit the "Fostering" section of our website.
UPDATE:David is AMAZING! He is the sweetest dog I've ever transported, no doubt about it. He rides extremely well in the car and will lean against the back seat while he looks out the window. David is very affectionate and enjoys being petted as much as possible; if I stopped petting him, he would nudge my arm softly with his nose until I resumed petting him (not a hard thing to do with such a cutie! He's so soft!). He even laid his head in my palm for me to hold/caress his face for a majority of the trip. He is one of the most laid back, easy going dogs I have met as well. David would be the perfect dog for anyone looking for a buddy to hang out with. He walks well on the leash and responds to commands like sit, stay, and shake. When introduced to cats, David didn't even give them a second glance, as if they weren't even there. It is obvious he belonged to someone at some point. He is on the smaller side, though he could stand to gain some weight. DAVID NEEDS A FOSTER HOME! |
Meet Cute Guinness. He is a 10 weeks male lab puppy. He is fun, calm and happy. He loves to hang out with his foster brother so we think he would do better with another dog in the house.
UPDATE FROM FOSTER MOM:He is absolutely adorable and very calm and smart. He woke me up once during the night and did his business and then went right back to sleep and didn't wake up until 6:00 this morning. He's adjusting great. Last night, Chevas taught him how to go up the back stairs - it was precious to watch and Chevas went up and down the stairs circling him, encouraging him to go one step at a time. This morning they curled up together like they've known each other their whole lives.

Kona is a sweet 8 month old black lab and she is super sweet and gentile. She loves to be loved, loves to play outside with my other dogs and loves to run and fetch the ball. She is great with kids and is very well trained and behaved. Kona would make an awesome addition to any family. She truly just fit right in the second we brought her home. She will give kisses and at night likes to cuddle in bed and then she will go to sleep in her crate or on a dog bed. She is SUPER LOVING and SWEET! Kona is potty trained, no accidents and does wimper or comes to one of us when she has to go out to go potty. We think Kona would do better in a home with another dog.

Meet Mitus and Lily. They are both 5-6 years old and they were adopted from LFS a few years ago. Their mom could not keep them anymore due to financial reasons so they are back into the program and looking for a new home. They have been through training and they know many commands (refresher training session will come with their adoption). They are both house broken and crate trained. They ring the bell to go outside, they walk well on leash and they love people and dogs. They are super easy and loving. They are both on a diet so stay posted for pictures of their new figure in a few weeks. Lily is very gentle, sweet, loving. She will sit and let you pet her for hours. Mitus is also sweet but a little more out going. He is content with a little loving and then he will go lay down. Both are very food motivated. They like to play hard with each other. Both love to ride in the car. Neither is possessive over food or toys.
UPDATE FROM FOSTER DAD: She is a very affectionate, calm, and loving dog. She is very patient and loves to be around people. She has a wonderful and kind disposition and would do very well in a home either with or without children. She rarely barks or licks. She plays but no longer is as hyper as a puppy. Her favorite thing to do is to follow you around with her stuffed animals. Based on our experience with her we would like to see her go to a home with no other dogs to get the attention that she so deserves. She walks very well and attentive on a leash, respects the limits of the yard with very little command and is very well mannered. Lilly does fine being left home alone with a good bone. She loves to cuddle and when finds the opportunity will be more than happy to lay into your lap. She lets you know when she is sleeping well by snoring. She will also need someone that will be able to exercise her regularly and is able to control a large size dog when around other dogs. |
Meet Maui! These super sweet 5 years old girl was just rescued along with her 10 puppies. What a trooper! Even with the hardships she has gone through, being abandoned at the shelter and having to feed 10 hungry puppies, Maui manages to have a smile on her face at all times. When I first saw her, all she wanted was to get out of the cage and have some human interaction. She loves being petted! When she finally got out of the cage and was allowed to play outside for a bit of a break from her puppies, she lit up. This girl truly deserves a home where she can be appreciated, without the fear of being dropped off at another shelter. Anyone that opens their heart and home to this wonderful girl will surely be rewarded. Unfortunately she is also heartworm positive so as soon as we can, she will be treated. Maui will be available for adoption in a few weeks, once her puppies are weaned and she is done with her heartworm treatment. UPDATE: Maui just received treatment for heartworm. She is convalescing until she can be introduced into another foster home or forever home! She's on pain medications right now but she is going to be spunky once she recovers! Everyday her tail is wagging more. Everyone who has met Maui tells us how wonderful she is. She is going to make some owner very happy soon.
UPDATE: Maui is an incredibly social dog! She has been steadily improving since her heartworm treatment last week. While she was pretty sick when she got to my home she still exhibited true lab spirit. She is incredibly affectionate and loves to be petted, rubbed, stroked or just to snuggle on the sofa. She gets a sparkle in her eye when she sees the leash and her tail doesn't quit wagging while she waits patiently at the door for us to go out for our short walks. She still gets exhausted after a brief walk around the block but she loves it every step of the way. She gets excited when she sees other people or dogs across the street and I can tell she can't wait until the vet says it is safe for her to have more activity. She'll be a bundle of energy once she recovers. She seems to be really loyal and is looking for someone to bond with - she wants to love someone. She also would be great in a home with another dog to keep her company and a yard to chase squirrels and birds around!
MAUI UPDATE:Maui has successfully done her first round of HW treatment. She has one more treatment at the end of July but that should be a lot easier for her. She was a real trooper through the first round. She is very sweet and easy going. Her favorite thing to do is to sleep on the bed or the couch. She would be perfect for someone ready to give lots of affection and willing to share the couch .
MAUI NEEDS A FOSTER HOME! |
Meet Lady Megan. She is currently very sad and depressed but we are working on making her smile again. Here is her story: A boarding place where one of our volunteer work, emailed us. First she lost her home of 10 years when her parents lost their house. She was rescued but the rescue had dropped her off for long term boarding. Given that she is Heartworm positive and 10 years old, they had decided to just leave her there and not treat her for Heartworms. She is not only Heartworm positive, but also significantly overweight (which is causing some joint pain) and with some teeth disease. So, she is a mess right now, yet we decided that we could not let her complete the rest of her life in a boarding place without much human interaction. Seniors do not care about playing all day with other dogs, they want a comfy place to hang out. So we asked the other rescue to release her to us. She is a very sweet dog, now just sad and a little depress, understandably so. She is great with cats and did not even move when cats where climbing all over her. Our plan is to slowly make her better to let her enjoy the last few years of her life. Because she is a senior, treatment will take a while, and she will have to do this slower than younger dog. But in a few months she will be done. She will need to be on a diet (Miss Daisy lost more than 20 pounds so we a clearly pros at this). Finally, when she is better, we will extract any teeth that are hurting. Lady Megan as a few hard months ahead of her but we expect that in no time she will be wagging her tail again. We will be start doing some fundraising to help with her expenses and the hunt for a quite foster home for her is already started. We found a wonderful home for Daisy, I know there is the perfect home for Lady Megan as well. Stay posted for updates! Use the donation button if you want to help us raise the money we need for Lady Megan's treatments. UPDATE: The moment she got out of boarding Lady Megan started smiling again! She rides well in the car although she is too overweight to be able to get in on her own (the diet has started already!), she loves other dogs, she loves lying down outside in the shade and a soft dog bed. She is finally relaxed and happy and we like to keep our dogs happy.
Our old lady can still hold her own at the party with our two party crashers Tucker and Buddy. UPDATE FROM FOSTER MOM: Megan is doing wonderful in her new foster home! She is slowly losing her extra weight and is loving her arthritis medications; She is now walking around easily and even playing with the other dogs. Megan is super affectionate and will follow us around the house with a big smile on her sweet face. She has had her first Heartworm treatment and is well on her way to enjoying her senior years!
UPDATE: Megan has successfully completed heartworm treatment and is doing great! Her coat keeps getting softer and shinier thanks to her thyroid medications and new food, and she continues to do well even though we've decreased her arthritis medications! (Losing 15 lbs sure helps make walking around easier!) It's amazing to see her run to the house with the other dogs when before she could barely even get up to go outside. She still has about 15-20 lbs to go but we are making great progress. The only downside to her new-found mobility is that she has started chasing the cat a bit, so she will need a tolerant cat or a dog only home. Megan is ready for her forever home.
UPDATE: We are down to 75 lbs!!! Thats 22 lbs of weight loss. She is doing great- running around, going on walks, getting along with everyone, not chasing the cat. Perfect companion for someone who wants a big old couch potato (who can't get on the couch!).
UPDATE:Megan is doing great! She was running around the yard with her foster sisters the other day! Here she is begging for a rawhide :)

UPDATE FROM FOSTER DAD:Mitus is a very affectionate dog and loves attention. He loves to follow you around and is very good and attentive on a leash and also does well off leash respecting the limits of the yard with very little command. He is protective and very aware of any activity around the house. He is quick to give a shallow bark if he has a concern about anything in or around the house. He still has acts like a puppy and loves to play doing best in a household with older children (10+). Mainly because he is a large and strong dog, but still very well mannered. He responds quickly with commands and can be left home alone without being crated. He has more of a Australian Cattle Dog appearance (shape) and the coat and eyes of a Black Lab. He is just a big lab who loves to get lots of attention.

Mr. Pibb is a 2-3 yr old black lab. He was first found as a stray last year, then adopted. He was then found wondering the streets and animal control brought him back. Since then he has been at the shelter for a long time. He is great with people and other dogs. He is neutered, HW neg, and Micro Chipped.

Hi There! My name is TJ and I am ready to find a forever home. When I was a puppy, some people with children took me in. But, I guess they forgot that I was going to grow. I am only 77 lbs, but they decided I was a little too big for their house, so I had to stay out on a small deck. Finally, this good man came along and took me to his home. I was taught so many wonderful things like my name (: Also, I learned to sit, shake and where to use the bathroom! But, this companion had some other problems and had to forfiet me. So, I now live in a barn. I like it here ok, but I miss having someone to play with and to love. I am only three years old and I have a life time of love to give you.
UPDATE FROM FOSTER PARENTS:TJ is doing great. He really is an awesome dog with one of the sweetest faces I have seen. He was able to settle into our home immediately. He gets along great with our two dogs. He’s completely house broken, has good manners and listens well to commands. He loves to play fetch and tug-a-war on occasion. He is also quite comfortable just chilling out. Through our short time with TJ, I can tell you that he seems to prefer a man to bond with but respects men and women equally.
