Our new project is to bring the dogs to school to educate students about various issues we face in Georgia with emphasis on Heartworms prevention. We are now organizing interactive lectures around Atlanta for the next academic year. Students can virtually adopt a dog, raise money, or start one year long projects with us for community outreach or fundraising for Labrador Friends. Email us at labfriendinfo@gmail.com if you would like more information or to schedule a lecture at your school. We did it once already and the students loved it. To see pictures of our visit with Brutus to the Woodward Academy go to http://www.labradorfriends.com/Available/available_main.htm Education is part of our mission so help spread the word. |

Meet Darla. Darla is a great dog ready to be a loyal friend to any family. She has been living at a training facility for the past couple of months to work on her manners and obedience. Now she is ready to go to a home to start her new life. The trainer who is working with her loves her. She describes her as a "very loving, intelligent and energetic lab". She has obedience training and she knows her basic commands plus a few fun tricks. Darla is very loyal and is protective of the people she loves and her territory. Because she is so smart and protective, Darla requires a confident owner with previous experience with dogs….but hey, there are many of you out there! She loves to play with other dogs, she rides extremely well in the car, and she is very affectionate. If you are looking for a loyal sweet companion this is the one! |

Does your dog love treats but need to loose weight? Give him raw vegetables: Carrots, zucchini squash, a few slices of apple (for the ones not on a diet you can add a little peanut butter on the slice), even romaine lettuce are healthy choices. You will be surprised how much your dog will like this healthy treats. Of course, don’t forget to get out of the door and exercise together. |

None of us would want to be without health insurance. Well, the same applies to our dogs. LFS recommends you buy pet health insurance for your animals. If you just adopted a dog from us you can get insurance for as low as $1 for the first month. Just follow the link to Sheltercare insurance. If you have not just adopted a dog go to Quickcare pet insurance where plans are as low as $11 per month. Do your research and you will see it is worth it. If you are still not sure, email me and ask me about the day my lab Oliver dislocated his shoulder on a Sunday afternoon, or when his sister Nala stole 4 bars of chocolate on Thanksgiving day! I saved a lot of money thanks to pet insurance… and you know how expensive emergency vets can be. For health products for your dogs go to EntirelyPets.com. They match any prices. We all love our vets but why not save some money by purchasing on line and helping LFS at the same time? Use code JOINTMAX5 to get $5 off any jointMAX supplement or code AUG07FSHIP for free shipping for orders over $65. |

We adopted Lady (Lady III in our books) a few months ago. My husband and I had totally different ideas about the dog we wanted. I reluctantly agreed to a golden lab, but absolutely no retriever for me because of the length of the hair. We went to your adoption site on the rainiest, coldest, saddest, greyest day. I had seen a picture of Lady on your site but I did not want a Golden with retriever mix, a senior dog, an injured dog, an overweight dog. Well, you guessed it. Lady came to my husband and leaned against him and that was it. So we end up with Lady III, 8 1/2 years old, with an injured paw, 20 lbs overweight, with so much retriever mix in her that we decided to have her shaved for comfort in the summer months! I tell you, that girl is smart, she knew who to go to and be loved. She is totally happy here, rolls around in the grass (her great joy) smells every leaf and flower, and has quickly learned not to walk into my flower beds. She loves to sit in the Florida room after dinner and listen to the cicadas. She loves to chase tennis balls and sleeps in our bedroom, though her favorite spot (from day one) is under the huge coffee table in the library! Thank you LFS for making us and her happy together. Love, Nina. |

This is Dale now Mack. Dale’s previous life has not been easy as his owner left him locked in a shed for days with no food or water. After some time with LFS now Dale/Mack has a new life and a wonderful new family that loves and understands him. He even has his own personal pond to swim in! Despite his past, Dale never lost faith in people ....and as you can see, it was worth it! |
