Our dog is the month is a cute little one, Phoenix. He was rescued together with his brother Pistol from a kill shelter. This tiny little puppy may be small but he surely does not let his size slow him down. We think he is convinced to be a big dog! Phoenix is a small puppy, with a big personality looking for someone with a huge heart. Could that be you? |

Dogs are very curious animals and, as omnivores and natural scavengers, can get into and eat just about anything. However, there are many toxic substances found in your home that could potentially kill your dog. Beside the usual poisons like bleach, detergents, and rats poison there many other things around your house that highly toxic to dogs. Do you know them all? Antifreeze: Common antifreeze kills many pets each year. It smells and tastes very sweet to dogs and is very appealing to them. Do you know that as little as a few tablespoons of antifreeze can kill a dog in a matter of hours? Chocolate: Chocolate contains a substance called the obromine which is toxic to dogs. Baking chocolate and dark chocolate is especially dangerous. Tylenol: As little as two regular strength Tylenol tablets can kill a small dog. Watch Batteries: If your dog ingests a watch battery, it can cause a potentially fatal ulceration in the stomach within 12 hours. Moth Balls: Moth balls contain an insecticide that causes central nervous system excitement and seizures. Fabric Softeners and other detergents: All sorts of household detergents are toxic to dogs at one level or another, but fabric softeners fall into the highly toxic category. Mouthwash: Mouthwash can contain boric acid which is highly toxic to dogs. Peach Pits: With most fruits, the pits and the seeds are toxic to dogs. Plants: Many common and popular household plants are highly toxic to dogs. A partial list of toxic plants includes poinsettias, lilies, ferns, devil's ivy, aloe, ivy, mistle toe, azaleas and tulip bulbs. Even monkey grass can be dangerous to a dog, especially a puppy. Click here to download a full list of plants that are toxic to dogs and always keep an eye on your puppy when he is outside. Almonds: Grapes and almonds and some fruits are also poison to dogs. Pesticides: The pesticides that you use to make your grass green can make your dog very sick. Be very careful. Xylitol: Is a sugar substitute found in products from gum to cookies and crackers. A pack of Orbitz sugar free gums can get a chocolate lab very sick within 30 minutes. |

Holly is a sweet, energetic, AKC registered, lab. She was turned to us by a breeder who could not sell her. She is a very bright dog but if you don't challenge her energy in the right way she tends to get in trouble. She is the typical working lab: if you don't give her job to do she will find one herself, and not always a job you would like. No worries, we know how to handle energetic puppies! After two weeks of training she learned how to control herself and she is now with a wonderful family who adores her. Her favorite toy, a soccer ball is always with her. Check out Holly celebrating her birthday with a new soccer ball! |
